A wonderful signed copy of 'Farmer Giles of Ham, The Rise and Wonderful Adventures of Farmer Giles, Lord of Tame, Count of Worminghall and King of the Little Kingdom'.
Signed and dated "J.R.R. Tolkien, 17 Dec. 1959" to the Half Title Page.
The previous owner, a graduate student of tolkien's, was able to have Tolkien sign copies of his books for him.
His ornate armorial bookplate is on the front endpaper, but has asked that his name not be used in any description.
This is tolkien's second major published work, preceded only by the Hobbit.
Originally published in 1949, this is the 2nd impression of the 1st Edition, published by Allen & Unwin in 1957.
A Fine book with the no faults noted. The original dustjacket is price clipped in Near Fine condition with slightest tanning to the spine.
The textblock is clean and tight, with the topstain is still bright and unfaded.
The dustjacket shows remarkably well for it's age.
No loss, showing some minor rubbing and the previously mentioned sunning to the spine.
Two color plates by Pauline Baynes, as well as being illustrated on almost every page with her line drawings.
Highly collectable, this is a wonderful copy for any Tolkien fans collection.
Digital photo's available, inquire if interested.
Other Tolkien books available, include both the UK and US editions, original cloth bindings, custom fine bindings, and Signed/Numbered/Limited Editions.
